In honor of Prince’s 60th birthday, our founder traveled to Minneapolis to bring music to high-need classrooms. The first project was inspired by a very passionate music teacher who believes in the power of music to transform lives. For this first project, IAPW arranged a piano and instruments to be donated to the school. Manuela also spent the morning with the kids giving them a deeper understanding of why she felt it important to recognize Prince in this way.
Continuing the celebration, we worked to transform an abandoned classroom in North Minneapolis into a music room for middle school students. Manuela kicked off the project with Dave Hampton & Andre Cymone and help from Christine Onesky, Chance Howard, Robbie Paster and Anthony Burnside. What we didn’t know at the time was that some of Prince’s former teachers now teach at this very school! Synchronicity at its best!
